Acupuncture

The ancient Chinese healing art based upon links between certain points of the body and the functioning organs; when an organ is affected by illness, such points - which number about 800 - become sensitive. The points are linked together by their association with a particular organ or function and form pathways or meridians as they are called through which ch'i energy flows. The art of the acupunturist is to restore any energy imbalances and unblock the pathways by stimulating the points along them. This can be done either through superficially inserting silver or stainless steel needles into the skin, or through gentle massage or scratching points. Sometimes an aromatic plant, mugwort may be burnt over the point.

Aromatherapy

The treatment method using essential oils extracted from flowers, plants, trees and spices which are massaged into the body, inhaled, sprinkled into baths or occasionally ingested.

Ayurveda

Translated, this is the science of life and is the traditional medicine of India, dating back at least two and a half thousand years. There are five elements - fire, water, earth, air and ether. In addition, there are three basic qualities of energy - rajas, ramas and sattva. Through maintaining these qualities in a balanced state, good health is achieved.

Buteyko Method

The Buteyko Method is the most successful known method for controlling certain chronic diseases and conditions. Developed by Russian scientist and medical doctor K.Buteyko, this method offers a new concept in the treatment of many chronic disorders. It is beneficial for asthmatics and those with breathing difficulty such as sinitus, rhinitus, hay fever, allergies and panic or anxiety attacks.

Chiropractice

By manipulation of the joints, especially those of the spines and hands, health can be restored and maintained. It is based upon the idea that displacement of the vetabrae causes disease through impaired function of the nervous system. The system was discovered at the turn of the last century though today the practitioner may well employ the use of x-rays, physiological and neurological tests.

Family therapy

When treating an individual with family therapy, the sympton is considered to be a family issue and thus the family must be treated as a whole. The aim is to discover how the behaviours of the family members perpetuate the sympton, and to change the relationship between the members so that the sympton disappears.

Feng Shui

Literally meaning wind and water, Feng Shui is the practice of living in harmony with our environment to enhance our wellbeing. It originates from China though has only recently been embraced in the western world, and describes the enhancement of positive ch'i energy flow in our lives. This is acheived through balancing Yin (cool, dark, feminine and lifeless) energy with Yang (hot, bright, masculine and powerful) energy.

Floral essence therapy

Therapy heals at the subtle energy level of our bodies (our auras or energy field). It can help to dissolve long-standing traumas or blocks at the emotional and mental levels, by transforming fears, phobias and many negative feelings into positive, balanced states which support our well-being on all levels. After in-depth discussion with the client, the most appropriate essences are chosen and these are usually reviewed and changed every 2 weeks, until all troublesome issues or conditions are rectified. Tinctures are taken orally 2/3 times per day and are safe and natural without any contra-indications.

Homeopathy

The system of medicine based upno the idea that an illness which produces certain symptons can be cured by a substance or drug that produces the same symptons. The medications are often diluted many thousands of times. It is known commonly as treating like with like - an approach which stimulates the body to resolve the symptons itself rather than suppress them as is often done with general medicine techniques.

Hypnotherapy

There are many types of hypnotherapy available, often with differernt aims, though always with the same characteristic - the client is brought into a hypnotic state whereby they respond positively to the directions of the therapist. It is useful for treating tension, smoking, pain relief, obesity, psychosomatic ailments and phobias.

Massage techniques

Working on the soft tissues, the muscles and the skin, tension in the body can be relieved. There are numerous massage techniques available, varying from intuitive approaches to well defined and taught methods.

Personal coaching

Shiatsu

This healing technique involves stimulating or relaxing acupuncture points and meridians. Translated from the Japanese, it means finger pressure and may be considered to be a form of needle-free acupuncture. It's premise is to release and balance the flow of ch'i at points where it may have become blocked or over stimulated.

Reiki

The ancient system of Reiki healing employs a Reiki practitioner who channels healing energy into their client. This takes place with the patient fully clothed and occurs at both the physical and auric field level.

Reflexology

This is a technique whereby particular areas of the soles and sides of the feet are seen to relate to the organs of the body.Through point manipulation and massage, the health of the organs is promoted. In addition, reflexology may also be used as a diagnosis tool.
